Our CEO Kevin Buckler works hard, plays hard and above all, never gives up. He helms two vibrant and innovative companies in Petaluma, California — The Racers Group and Adobe Road Winery. This ethic of always giving it his all has made him a success on the race track, in the office and boardroom and in life. So, It’s no surprise that Kevin was invited to bring his passion and enthusiasm — and story — to the TEDx Palo Alto stage December 17.
TEDx is a program of local events bringing people together to share inspiring stories. Held at Palo Alto’s Oshman Family JCC, speakers explored ways in which they cultivate empathy and spark action.
Kevin, a champion racing driver with a 24 Hours of Le Mans victory and two Rolex 24 Hours at Daytona victories as a driver (plus numerous series titles, victories and accolades as a team owner) took the stage to talk about how the endurance racing mentality teaches us a lot about life and how this ethic has impacted both the racing team and his award-winning winery in a talk entitled Never Give Up. “I try to look at adverse situations and turn them into positives,” he said on cultivating that winning secret sauce. This doesn’t mean that there aren’t bumps on the road. “It took fifteen years to become an overnight sensation,” Kevin told the audience in a well-received talk that resonated with the attendees.
As part of the TEDx experience, Adobe Road Winery was invited to pour a selection of wines, including the brand’s 2015 Chardonnay, 2016 Redline, 2016 Pinot Noir, 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Knights Valley and 2014 Cabernet, Beckstoffer Georges III Vineyard for the over 300 dignitaries, CEOs, influencers, tech gurus and other guests at the event. Kevin, Adobe Road Winery Director of Hospitality Sonny Martin and Communications Director Gail Benzler were on hand to make sure the wine flowed and that important connections were fostered. It was a long, but very successful evening — the endurance racing mentality at work.

Try these out-of-this-world, easy to make recipes designed to perfectly pair with our two Adobe Road Winery Carneros Chardonnays.
This wine’s lively acidity, luscious fruits and hints of spice and savory toast find a great home with our warm, creamy Parmesan Artichoke Dip.
2 cups shredded parmesan cheese
1(10 ounce) box frozen chopped spinach, thawed and drained of excess liquid
1(14 ounce) can artichoke hearts, drained and chopped
2⁄3cup sour cream
1 cup cream cheese
2 teaspoons garlic, minced
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Mix together Parmesan cheese, spinach, and artichoke hearts.
Combine remaining ingredients and mix with spinach mixture.
Bake for 20-30 minutes.
Serve with crackers, pita chips or bread
Note: you can also play around with adding spice such as red pepper flakes or chopped green chili or similar.
Smoky Spiced Roasted Almonds are a go-to with this rich, fruit-driven Chardonnay.
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cayenne
2 cups whole almonds
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
In large bowl whisk butter, Worcestershire sauce, chili powder, cumin, garlic salt, and cayenne, Add almonds and toss to coat. Spread in single layer on baking sheet.
Bake for 18-25 minutes flipping several times. Remove from oven and sprinkle with kosher salt.
After fully cooling store in Ziploc freezer bag or airtight container.
2014 Adobe Road Cabernet Sauvignon - Beckstoffer Vineyards Just Released to Acclaim
Adobe Road Winery is excited to announce the release of our highly anticipated 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon, Rutherford, Napa Valley, Beckstoffer Vineyard - Georges III. We are very proud that our premier wine has received yet another 94 point score from Wine Spectator. That’s two vintages back-to-back, and our fourteenth 90+ score in the past 12 months.
Our cabernets over the years, have shown remarkable staying power, earning many accolades in a competitive class of premium “Napa heavyweights” and are favorites of wine connoisseurs and casual fans, alike.
We can’t wait for you to try this amazing wine, made with old-school flair from grapes handpicked from one of Napa Valley’s most distinguished and historic of Rutherford houses, Beckstoffer Vineyards -- Georges III.
Tantalizingly warm and deep, the flavors are expansive, with blackberry, chocolate and savory baking spices lending complexity. The smooth finish is long and defined with a memory of mocha and dark berries.
This is a bottle you can uncork now and enjoy, or save in your cellar… if you have the patience.
Today, it was announced that the Petaluma Gap, the gateway to the Sonoma Coast wine growing region, has been established as an AVA after final approval by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Board.
This is wonderful news for Adobe Road Winery. “We’re thrilled to be able to highlight our hometown Petaluma Gap grapes and to showcase it in our bottles,” says Adobe Road winemaker Garrett Martin. “This is a huge step forward for this incredible growing region.” The Petaluma Gap AVA extends across the southern end of the Sonoma Coast AVA and into northern Marin County. Daily fog and wind patterns cool the vineyards throughout the growing season, yielding fruit that is balanced and nuanced with complex flavors and natural acidity.
By including the new Petaluma Gap AVA on labels, Adobe Road and other Gap vintners will be able to share very precise information about producers and vineyards with consumers, right on the bottle, rather than the much broader Sonoma County appellation. And this is vitally important for marketing and visibility. The newly designated Petaluma Gap AVA is one of the richest regions in California for growing premium pinot noir, chardonnay and syrah grapes. The area’s wind and fog are the Gap’s hallmark and the region as a stellar 150 year history of growing grapes. “We love the unique aspects of the topography and the wind influence on the vines,” Martin relates. “This creates vines with richer texture and deeper complexity.
That rich texture and deep complexity were certainly displayed in our 2015 Adobe Road Winery Pinot Noir - Sangiacomo Vineyard, Roberts Road, which garnered 91 a 91 point score from Robert Parker. Stay tuned -- our 2016 vintage will be released soon. But that’s not all. Adobe Road fans will be able to enjoy Gap produced syrah and cabernet sauvignon in the future.
Congratulations to the Petaluma Gap Winegrowers Alliance. We’re excited to be able to promote and showcase our beautiful wines from the Gap.
We make our Adobe Road Winery Rosé from almost all our our red wine lots (left to right in the photo above: petite sirah, cabernet sauvignon, grenache, syrah, zinfandel and pinot noir). We take just a little bit of juice out of each lot early in the winemaking process. This leaves us with a more concentrated red wine for fermentation and a very cool rosé.
Each of these wine lots gets fermented separately. See all of the different colors? Each grape has a different amount of pigment we can extract at any given time. It all comes down to skin contact and the maturity of those grape skins.
So, petite sirah rosé is very dark, as you can see -- it looks like what you might expect to see in a mature pinot noir wine. But pinot noir rosé? It can be really light, like a salmon or even an almost chardonnay color through the light, as you can see in our photo.
What we get during and after fermentation is a very interesting color palette and in January the mixing really begins. We start blending these finished wines together to make the rich flavor and color profiles our Adobe Road Winery Rosé is known for year after year.
Getting those colors and flavors right is very important -- it’s an art, really -- and we want our rosé to be very expressive of each vintage. It means our winemaker, Garrett Martin spends a lot of time getting the blend just the way he wants it.
So, this amazing palette of color will continue to develop through the winter months, coming together in a kind of alchemy in spring when we release our next vintage of Adobe Road Rosé.
Deep, jammy black fruit, spices, hints of chocolate and fine grained tannins all come together to make Zinfandel a wonderfully versatile and accessible wine. Our Adobe Road Winery 2015 Zinfandel from Famighetti Vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley AVA is a terrific wine that amplifies the taste of autumn spices like clove, allspice, nutmeg and cinnamon, as well as poultry (especially dark meat). It’s a perfect choice for your Thanksgiving table.

A little glitz, a little glamor and a lot of bubbles. What a way to start your Thanksgiving celebration! Our very limited 2016 Adobe Road Winery Sparkling Rosé is bursting with luscious red fruit, texture and acidity. But don’t put it away after the appetizers have disappeared -- this is a wine that will be great throughout the meal.
For the white wine drinkers, our new 2015 vintage Adobe Road Winery Chardonnay from Sangiacomo’s south vineyard in the Petaluma Gap is a surprisingly good match for the Thanksgiving table. This wine pairs nicely with the bold flavors of the day, adding the crisp acidity that teams up so well with turkey, potatoes and stuffing, as well as with those sweeter foods like candied yams.
Wine lovers adore pinot noir’s bright red berry notes and hints of spice. This wine is the classic pick to pair with all of the traditional Thanksgiving favorites, from the ever popular creamy mashed potatoes and casseroles, to white and dark meat turkey. And cranberries? Perfection. The pinot noir grape really sings in our 2016 Adobe Road Winery Green Valley of the Russian River Valley Big Pig Vineyard Pinot Noir and that’s what makes it so special -- and good. The Bavarian Lion Vineyard in Sonoma’s Knights Valley is special. Its raised elevation and warm growing region makes it perfect for growing cabernet sauvignon.
The 2014 Adobe Road Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has a rich core of blackberry jam and is surrounded by dusty, rich tannins accented by a hint of mocha and anise. The vast majority of our grapes — 80 to 85 percent — had already been harvested by the time the Sonoma and Napa fires started, and so they escaped fire and smoke damage. And, we’re extremely happy with the high quality of that fruit, from whites like Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay to signature reds such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and more.
Despite the fact that Cabernet Sauvignon tends to be one of the last grapes left on the vine each season, we’ve got some extremely good news — Adobe Road will add two exciting new premier single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons to our collection of wines with the 2017 vintage.
We just finished pressing some amazing grapes from Lichau Hill Vineyards in Sonoma County’s Petaluma Gap. Lichau is a small, hand-tended vineyard growing 100 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, and it’s located not far from the Sangiacomo Family’s Roberts Road Vineyard, where we source some of the most prestigious Pinot Noir grapes available. Many wineries sought this delicious, small-lot Cabernet Sauvignon fruit and we’re excited to bring it to Adobe Road.
Adobe Road Winery is also thrilled to be adding Cabernet Sauvignon from a fantastic pedigree in Napa’s Sage Canyon. This vineyard is adjacent to the original Charles Pritchard homestead, high above Napa’s Lake Hennessey, home to Bryant Family Vineyard, Chappellet, Colgin, Continuum and David Arthur. The vineyard escaped the fires and smoke, just like Petaluma’s Lichau Hill, and the mountain fruit is very expressive of the terroir.
We’re excited about 2017 and the great quality wines that will result from a fantastic harvest.
We were honored to share our Adobe Road Winery flagship wine, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Vineyards, Georges III Block A1 at this year’s Wine Spectator Wine Experience at the Marriott Marquis New York City October 19-21.
Adobe Road was asked to participate and was honored to be amongst some of the top wineries in the world. Our 2013 Beckstoffer A-Block Cabernet Sauvignon received a stellar 94 point score from The Wine Spectator and to be listed as the highest-rated wine made from this very special vineyard owned by Andy Beckstoffer, is very exciting. Perhaps even more impressive for us was the way in which our wine was received by everyone who attended the Wine Experience last weekend.
Almost 5,000 people sampled the over 260 wines at this year’s 37th Wine Experience, celebrating the world’s very best. This benchmark event is a can’t miss annual event for wine lovers year after year. The response to our highly acclaimed Beckstoffer Cabernet Sauvignon was out of this world -- our wine was deemed one of the very best in both Critics’ Choice Grand Tastings by this great group of wine aficionados amongst some of the most famous wineries in the world. People loved our wine and came back to our booth again and again for more. “Your wine was, I believe, the Wine of the Show, although the Chateau d’Yquem was a close second,” enthused attendee and new Adobe Road Wine Club member Jerry A. Rosenblatt.
Of course, Adobe Road Winery is known for putting the customer first and CEO Kevin Buckler and Director of Hospitality Sonny Martin made sure each and every Wine Experience guest received their share -- we were, as always, one of the first wineries to arrive and one of the last to leave each evening.
We were pleased to connect and entertain our Adobe Road Winery partners and friends at the show. Bob Garthwait managed to taste over 250 wines presented at the show -- this was his 31st New York Wine Experience in a row.
Expanding the scope and reach of Adobe Road is always a goal, and on this front, we were very successful as well. We are pleased to announce that Adobe Road wines will now be featured in most of New York City’s preeminent steak houses as well as some very prestigious retailers like “America's oldest” Acker Merrall & Condit and our friends at Beacon Wine and Spirits. In addition, we’ve broadened our market share by making placements in a number of regions including Florida, Nevada, Texas, Indiana, Maryland, Connecticut, Michigan and Canada, as well as working on opening distribution in Bermuda, Illinois and Arizona. Sonny really has been busy this year! All and all, we couldn’t have asked for a more successful weekend connecting with wine lovers, partners, reuniting with friends and winemakers and strengthening our share of the competitive wine marketplace.
