A superstar site for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Bacigalupi Vineyard is also capable of producing exceptional Petite Sirah. The rich soil on the banks of the Russian River provides complexity, while the cool climate allows for a long hang time and balanced structure. It presents a forebodingly dark purple color and a nose of dried herbs, black pepper, blueberry and vanilla bean. Blackberry, black fig and coffee are the initial expressions in the mouth, which are delivered along with refreshing acidity and firm tannins. The wine has tremendous depth in the mid-palate and a long finish that echoes the dark fruit aromas and adds burnt caramel and clove. Best enjoyed late on a cold winter night in front of a roaring fire, or alongside a sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, it will cellar well until at least 2018.
