2009 Pinot Noir
From a crest top vineyard in the Petaluma Gap that receives cooling influence from both the San Pablo Bay and the Pacific Ocean, this is a classically styled Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. Aged in approximately 30% new oak barrels, the wine shows off the generously ripe flavors of the vintage without being heavy or unctuous. A charmer from the beginning, it greets the senses with medium violet color and a penetrating nose of clove, sandalwood and dried strawberry. Finely structured with zesty acidity and velvety tannins, the wine yields plenty of black cherry, white pepper and persimmon pudding on the palate. Delicious enjoyed on its own, this wine is about as food-friendly as it gets, pairing best with cedar plank salmon, pan-seared filet mignon, or a thick juicy pork chop. Gold Medal, Sonoma County Harvest Fair.
