2013 Cabernet Sauvignon
As we began blending individual barrels from this small block on Beckstoffer’s Rutherford property we knew we had something special to share. Coming solely from one small block of Cabernet Sauvignon, clone 4, on Andy Beckstoffer’s famous Georges III Vineyard in Rutherford, this wine is a study of place and time.
2013 was a warm and dry growing season in Napa Valley. As California was in the grip of a devastating drought, the vines pushed through to ripen a crop of deeply concentrated, highly flavored fruit; the perfect raw material to transform into incredible Cabernet Sauvignon.
The Georges III vineyard usually delivers bright fruit aromatics and in 2013 the vineyard over delivered; intense fresh fruit aromas shine through the wine. And in classic Rutherford style the tannins have mellowed to a fine grained, dusty, delicious mouthfeel. This is a beautifully constructed wine, weaving together a balance between aromas and flavors of red fruit, black tea, cocoa nib, butterscotch, cinnamon, and baking spices.
We aged the wine in new French oak barrels for an extended period of time in order to develop complex aromatics and soften the tannins to a medium firm grip that is delicious now and will age for years to come. We hope you enjoy it as much as we do!
