Perfectly moderate and sunny California weather made it all possible in 2014. The vintage showed itself unique and powerful in the dark tannin structures found in the wines from Napa. The concentration of the fruit shone through at harvest, particularly in Rutherford. The picking window was large, allowing for harvest to occur at optimal ripeness.
Respecting the fruit and allowing its full expression is paramount. To that end, the fruit was de-stemmed and pumped to closed top tanks and then soaked, inoculated and fermented with peak temperatures in the high 80 degree Fahrenheit range. Gentle pressing and extended aging in new French oak for 30 months was followed by careful bottling.
The concentration and full mouthfeel of this wine speak to the vintage conditions. The wine is fresh, vibrant, perfectly ripe in fruit and tannin. Due to the extended aging, it is well integrated with the oak profile and expressive of its place in Rutherford.
